Increasing Public Safety Through Community Violence Intervention and Prevention
Envision a community where every individual possesses a trusted confidant who comprehends their struggles, having personally experienced similar challenges. This person would act as a proactive intervention when tensions escalate to potentially catastrophic and lethal levels. By providing tangible evidence of an alternative perspective to the desperate survival situations many individuals endure, we can foster a more compassionate and supportive community.
To help minimize gun violence in East Lansing, Michigan, the Michigan Public Health Institute (MPHI) has forged an alliance with Advance Peace and the Ingham County Health Department to establish the Advance Peace Peacemaker Fellowship. This innovative strategy employs evidence-based practices such as street outreach, mentoring, intensive case management, life skills training, cognitive behavioral therapy, and subsidized employment to engage individuals directly involved in cyclical and retaliatory gun violence.
The Advance Peace East Lansing Peacemaker Fellowship is dedicated to combating gun violence and promoting neighborhood safety and social cohesion by investing in the holistic development and well-being of individuals at the center of gun violence who are evading law enforcement.
